Silent Movie pianist Richard Hughes creates a living history by way of fascinating silent movie clips of newsreels, educational films, melodramas, cartoons, comedies and more. Students will have an opportunity to synchronize sound effects like a train whistle, siren and wind machine to a popular melodrama of 1913. This is followed by a demonstration of ingenious animation devices that preceded the motion picture camera and then, a focus on silent movie ‘Mood Music’ that Richard will play with selected films.
